Muscatine Levee Modeling Presentation
A PowerPoint presentation (PDF) was given at the "Living with Floods" meeting held May 29, 2013.
How to use Muscatine Island Flood Inundation Viewers
This viewer is compatible with Google Chrome only if you are using Windows XP. If you are using Windows 7, the Viewer is operable with Google Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer version 9 or above.
A time slider tool is located at the bottom of each web map. The web map is designed to step through the inundation model in 6-hour increments. For each model, start time is January 1, 2013 for the time increment of midnight (12 a.m.) to 6 a.m.
Time Slider Operation
When opening up the applications for the first time it is best to let the time slider run through the entire length of time, which speeds up display of the consecutive runs. Another way to accomplish this is pause the time slider and click the back button to go back to the start position on the Time Slider.
Navigation
If you wish to zoom in or pan around on the map, pause the Time Slider so that the application is not making requests to the server while you are navigating. Once you get to a location that you wish to look at as the water progresses through time, you can start the time slider back up.
Information Available
All of the 250 feet x 250 feet water cells are click aware so if you click on a water cell it will return attributes about that location, such as depth (in feet), velocity (in feet per second), and time (end of 6-hour increments). These are 6 hour interval time series so the only values available through these applications are at 6 hour increments. If 1 needs hour by hour increments MAGIC would have that available in GIS File format.
The Critical Facility points are also click aware, by clicking on the points the time to 1 foot and time to 2 foot values are shown for each breach scenario.
