MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Muscatine City Council will meet one more time on a Thursday before switching to meeting on Tuesdays starting in October. The Muscatine City Council approved a revised set of Rules of Council that, among other items, changed the meeting time and date for future council meetings.
According to the revised rules, the Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of every month. An in-depth session, if needed, will be called on the second Tuesday of each month, also starting at 5:30 p.m.
A rather light agenda is set for Thursday’s (Sept. 18) council meeting and includes setting a public hearing for October 7 on the plans and specifications for the Dredge Spoil Relocation Project. Previously the spoils were allowed to dry out in mesh tubes located on the former Hawkeye Lumber property but since that property was sold to a private developer, it has been proposed to move the dredge spoils to a location on Cypress Street between East 2nd Street and Mad Creek.
Also on Thursday’s agenda:
- Proclamation for Orange Shirt Day (also known as National Day of Truth and Reconciliation) in Muscatine on September 30.
- Proclamation for Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Muscatine on Monday, October 13.
- Approval of an extension of an industrial contract with Kraft Heinz Foods Company.
- Acceptance of completed work on the elevators at Clark House.
- Request to install a semi-permanent stop sign and island at the intersection of Mulberry Avenue and Tipton Road.
