MUSCATINE, Iowa – An emergency repair project on Cedar Street began today (June 18), reducing traffic to a single lane between the Logan Street roundabout and the 2000 block of Cedar Street. The lane restriction is expected to remain in place through June 27, weather permitting.
City crews identified a pavement failure—an upheaval of the roadway—near the top of the hill on Cedar Street on Tuesday. To minimize damage to passing vehicles, the Muscatine Department of Public Works applied a temporary cold patch later that afternoon.
Heuer Construction, contracted to perform the emergency repair, is scheduled to begin removing and replacing the damaged pavement today. Throughout the repair, one lane of traffic will remain open, with the City utilizing portable traffic signals to safely manage vehicle flow.
Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes if possible, and to allow extra travel time when passing through the construction zone. The City asks for drivers’ patience and cooperation as crews work to complete repairs by the June 27 target.
