MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Muscatine County Joint Communications Center (MUSCOM) will conduct a test of the county’s outdoor weather sirens at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, as part of ongoing maintenance and system troubleshooting.
“We’ve experienced technical issues with some sirens not activating properly since switching systems,” said Chris Jasper, Director of Emergency Management/911. “Our vendors will be on site Tuesday to run diagnostics and make adjustments to resolve the problem.”
While the primary test will begin at 10 a.m., additional siren activations may follow as settings are updated and functionality is verified.
“We may need to sound the sirens multiple times that morning to confirm everything is working as it should,” Jasper explained. “Residents should be aware that any siren heard during this testing window can be disregarded.”
Normally, outdoor warning sirens are tested the first Monday of each month at 11 a.m., weather permitting. Tests are not conducted during freezing months or if severe weather is forecast.
“If storms are predicted for Tuesday, the maintenance and testing will be postponed,” Jasper added.
Outdoor sirens are intended to alert people outside of immediate danger and prompt them to go indoors to seek more information.
