City Administrator Search 001 Finalists

MUSCATINE, Iowa – The three candidates for the vacant City Administrator position for the City of Muscatine will be attending a series of meetings on October 29 as the search by the Muscatine City Council enters the final stages.

An Open Forum for the public to meet, ask questions of, and provide input on the three finalists will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Muscatine Art Center. Comment cards will be available to the public and will be reviewed by the Muscatine City Council members.

Selected as finalists for the position were: Mark Jackson, current Story City, Iowa, City Administrator; Matt Mardesen, Nevada, Iowa, former Nevada and Monroe City Administrator and currently client manager for JEO Consulting Group; and Corey Rheinecker, current Sparta, Ill., City Manager.

Each candidate will attend a panel discussion with City Staff, be interviewed in person by the Muscatine City Council, attend a panel discussion with community leaders, and be given a tour of the community by City staff during their day in Muscatine on Oct. 29. The day will round out with the public having an opportunity to meet and provide input on the candidates from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Muscatine Art Center.

Former Muscatine City Administrator Carol Webb resigned on July 11, 2024, to accept a similar position with the City of Marshalltown, Iowa. Muscatine Police Chief Anthony Kies was named the Interim City Administrator on August 8, 2024.

A nationwide search for a new City Administrator was conducted with over 30 applications received by the City of Muscatine Human Resources Department. That list was reduced to six for a video conference call with the Muscatine City Council on Sept. 25 and Sept. 27 from which the final three were selected.
