MUSCATINE, Iowa – The City of Muscatine has launched its 2040 Comprehensive Plan development and needs your input. The project consultants, RDG Planning & Design, Inc., has developed a project website that provides information on the planning process, promotes upcoming public input events, and features an interactive map for virtual engagement.

The Comprehensive Plan is a critical tool that will guide decision-makers. Public participation is the cornerstone of the project, aptly named “Make It Muscatine”.

As a community-driven initiative, the Make It Muscatine website will also include a community survey. Feedback from public interaction and the community survey will directly influence the Comprehensive Plan goals and be used by the decision-makers to make informed choices.

The plan serves as Muscatine’s vision for the future and actions needed to achieve it. Covering a range of topics - land use, zoning, economic development, transportation, housing, recreation, services, amenities, and public safety – it provides a  unified set of goals tht ensure decisions align with the community’s long-term objectives.

The current Comprehensive Plan, adopted in 2013, is due for an update. The new plan will serve as a roadmap, based on community input, to leverage Muscatine’s strengths, capitalize on opportunities, address challenges, and capitalize on future opportunities.

Maya Struhar, Urban Planner with RDG, urges everyone to visit the project website and share it with friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors.

“The more people we have involved in this process, the better our outcome will be,” Struhar said.

Events are scheduled over the coming year to gather input, which started with a kick-off meeting and listening session this fall. The next opportunity to participate is a community visioning meeting in October.

Be sure to bookmark the Project Website and check in often for updates and opportunities to participate. You can also find a link to the “Comprehensive Plan” and “Updating the Comprehensive Plan” on the City of Muscatine website under Common Service Requests or on the Community Development page.
