MUSCATINE, Iowa – The elves in the Muscatine Parks and Recreation office are looking to help make spirits a bit brighter this holiday season, but need help from local community organizations and businesses to spread some good cheer with festive displays in Weed Park this December.

Muscatine’s historic Weed Park will shine brightly from December 3 through December 26 during the inaugural Festival of Lights with beautiful displays created by volunteers from local organizations and businesses. Viewers will be able to drive through the spectacle from 5:30-7:30 p.m. daily beginning at the Washington Street entrance and proceeding to the Colorado Street exit.

Hearts will grow three sizes when an organization or businesses adopts one of several areas in Weed Park for their holiday displays.  Not even the youngest of the young, the oldest of the old, nor the grinchiest of grinches will be able to withstand the warmth and joy created taking in the magic of these displays.

There is no cost for the drive-through event but goodwill donations of non-perishable food items may be dropped in the container at the Washington Street entrance. Donated food items will benefit local food pantries.

Volunteers may design their own light display near available Weed Park shelters, gardens and structures for the enjoyment of all this December. Interested organizations or businesses may submit their application by contacting the Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department at (563) 263-0241 or by emailing parksoffice@muscatineiowa.gov.

For additional information, contact the Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department at (563) 263-0241.
