MUSCATINE, Iowa –Through a private donation and from past public input, the City of Muscatine, in collaboration with community partners, has developed plans for new or additional amenities at four locations in the south end of Muscatine. Concepts for the four areas will be on display. The amenities will be purchased and installed at no cost to the City of Muscatine or to the taxpayers of Muscatine.
The City of Muscatine and the Muscatine Community Heart & Soul initiative invites the public to a South End Community Improvement Open House to be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 29, in the shelter at Taylor Park located just off Bond Street in Muscatine.
Members of the South End Community Improvement Committee will be on hand to interact with residents in attendance.
“For the past several years we have heard from residents about what they would like to see in the south end but we have not been able to allocate money toward these improvements,” Jodi Royal-Goodwin, Community Development Director said. “Parks and Recreation has done a very good job of keeping track of these requests and the committee was able to sift through them and come up with a plan.”
Royal-Goodwin added that public input continues to be sought as this project and future projects move forward.
“We are listening and are very interested in the wants and needs of the residents,” Royal-Goodwin said. “Muscatine Community Heart & Soul is one way we are reaching out and listening to residents.”
Conversations on making Muscatine a better place to live, work, or operate a business are at the core of the Muscatine Community Heart & Soul initiative. The program involves all residents in conversations that will lead to improving the community in ways that the residents want to see through building on the valued strengths.
The plan will be presented to the Muscatine City Council at the October 7 meeting.
