MUSCATINE Iowa – East 2nd Street from the railroad crossing east to just west of Family Dollar will be closed to traffic starting at 7 a.m. Monday. This is the second section of the 2nd Street reconstruction as part of the Mississippi Drive Corridor Reconstruction Project.
KE Flatwork has been working on the first section, from Orange to Oak Street, since May 7. Underground work is now complete with the contractor expecting to pave this section starting Monday, June 11, depending on the weather.
At the same time, KE Flatwork will begin removal of pavement from the railroad crossing to just west of Family Dollar. A bore company will arrive in Muscatine Wednesday to begin the process of boring underneath the railroad crossing. That work is expected to be completed by June 15.
The schedule calls for this section of East 2nd Street to be completed by September 18. Access to Family Dollar will be from Park Avenue west down 2nd Street.
City project managers state that the East 2nd Street construction areas will remain closed until released by the contractor.
