MUSCATINE, Iowa — In a life-threatening injury, every second counts. Because a person can die from blood loss in as little as five minutes, the Muscatine Fire Department is empowering local residents to step in and save lives through a series of free STOP THE BLEED® training courses.

The next session is scheduled for Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Muscatine Fire Station #2.

Why It Matters

While professional first responders work quickly, bystanders are always the true first people on the scene. This course transforms ordinary citizens into immediate responders who can provide critical care until an ambulance arrives.

“These public programs increase the chance of an individual surviving a traumatic event by providing the training for bystanders to act confidently until first responders arrive,” said Gary Ronzheimer, Battalion and EMS Chief for the Muscatine Fire Department.

Participants will receive hands-on instruction on how to control bleeding using direct pressure and the proper application of tourniquets.

  • When: January 24, 2026 | 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
  • Where: Muscatine Fire Station #2 (Conference Room), 2124 Stewart Road, Muscatine, IA.

Additional classes will be scheduled throughout the year to ensure the Muscatine community remains prepared.
