MUSCATINE, Iowa – MuscaBus service will be suspended on Saturday while the Compost Facility will be closed on Saturday and Sunday due to the incoming winter weather.
“Due to the impending snowstorm, we have decided to suspend bus services for the safety of our staff and the public,” said Amy Fortenbacher, Transit Supervisor for the City of Muscatine.
MuscaBus service will resume on Monday, weather permitting.
Solid Waste Division manager David Popp said that the Compost Facility will be closed Saturday and Sunday.
“We will make a determination on Monday if the facility will be open next week,” Popp said. “It just depends on the snow totals and temperature.”
Republic Services, Inc., also announced that Saturday’s Route A recycling collection may be postponed due to the weather.
“Due to the winter storm expected Friday night into Saturday, it is very unlikely the residential routes typically ran on Friday will be serviced on Saturday,” said Matthew Pivit, Municipal Services Manager for Republic. “In the event we are unable to run on Saturday, routes will be delayed until the NEXT regularly scheduled service day. We will take the extra recycling that does not fit in the cart on that day to get everyone caught up.”
Residents on the Route A Friday route were scheduled to have their recycling collected on Saturday due to changes in the Thanksgiving holiday schedule. If the Saturday collection is cancelled, Republic will collect that route on December 12.
Regular recycling service from Republic resumes on Monday, Dec. 1.
Friday’s refuse curbside collection was postponed due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The City of Muscatine will collect that route on Monday, Dec. 1, along with the regular Monday route.
While a Snow Emergency has not been declared, City officials continue to monitor conditions and adjust snow-removal plans as needed.
“This is the first winter storm of the season, and we urge anyone who must travel to use extreme caution,” said Brian Stineman, Public Works Director. “We also encourage residents to use off-street parking whenever possible, as it helps us clear streets more quickly.”
