MUSCATINE, Iowa – The safety of Muscatine students walking to and from school received a boost this week as the City of Muscatine and the Muscatine Community School District partnered to install a new designated school crosswalk.
Located at Muskie Early Learning Center on Colorado Street, the new crosswalk improves visibility, accessibility, and pedestrian safety for students and families. The project includes high-visibility striping, signage, flashing beacons, curb extensions, and ADA-compliant ramps. The installation includes in-street signage for drivers who are required to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk by stopping to allow them to cross safely before proceeding.
“Keeping our students safe is always a top priority,” said Clint Christopher, Muscatine Community School District Superintendent. “This project is a great example of what can be accomplished when the City and the District work together.”
The crosswalk installation aligns with the City’s ongoing commitment to improving neighborhood safety and mobility.
“Partnerships like this allow us to address community needs quickly and effectively,” said Matt Mardesen, City Administrator. “We are proud to work alongside the School District to provide a safer route for students.”
The project was completed ahead of the new school year and is part of a broader effort to enhance safe routes to schools across Muscatine.
