MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Muscatine City Council will convene for its regular meeting on Thursday, July 3, with a full agenda that includes the appointment and swearing-in of the City’s next Fire Chief, two public hearings, multiple development-related items, and agreements involving the Musco Sports Center and Greenwood Cemetery.
City Administrator Matt Mardesen will recommend that the Council approve the appointment of Interim Fire Chief Mike Hartman as Muscatine’s permanent Fire Chief. Hartman has served in the interim role since May 1, following the retirement of former Chief Jerry Ewers. Upon Council approval, Mayor Brad Bark will officially swear Hartman into his new position.
Two public hearings are scheduled during the session:
- The first hearing concerns the proposed transfer of City-owned right-of-way on Roby Avenue to adjacent property owners.
- The second will address a proposed amendment to the Consolidated Muscatine Urban Renewal Area, which would allow for tax increment financing (TIF) in support of two projects: an expansion of Carver Pump Company and a new residential subdivision by T&T Hackett Development Group, LLC.
Council members will also consider:
- A five-year Concession Operations Agreement with Fresh Idea Foods, Inc./Vander Vending for the Musco Sports Center.
- A five-year Retail Sales Agreement with Heritage Monuments of Iowa for Greenwood Cemetery.
Additional action items include:
- Awarding a $183,480 contract to Needham Excavating for the Dredge Spoils Relocation Trenchless Pipe Installation.
- Awarding a $28,000 contract to Behncke Construction, Inc. for the Slough Lift Station Upgrade Project.
- Approving a memorandum of agreement with artists Thomas Agran and Drew Etienne to create street murals as part of the Ignite Vitality: Mulberry Project.
