Parking Restrictions on Mulberry Avenue (JPG)

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Starting Monday, June 30, parking will be prohibited on the northeast side of Mulberry Avenue between 6th and 10th Streets to allow for the Mulberry Avenue Sidewalk Reconstruction Project. Construction is scheduled to begin that day, with sidewalks expected to be paved and open by August 8. Final project completion is anticipated by August 29.

Eastern Iowa Excavating and Concrete, LLC, of Cascade, Iowa, was awarded the $269,305.70 contract during the June 19, 2020, Muscatine City Council meeting. The project will replace aging, non-ADA-compliant sidewalks along this key pedestrian route, which serves students and families walking to and from Jefferson Elementary School.

Work includes removing and replacing approximately 1,100 square yards of sidewalk, along with the reconstruction of nearby driveways and curb and gutter sections. The improvements will provide a consistent width, eliminate trip hazards, and meet current accessibility standards.

The project is funded through the Community Development Block Grant program.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes when possible and to plan for possible delays in the area. The City of Muscatine appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation as these important improvements are made.
