MUSCATINE, Iowa – Muscatine isn’t just a great place to live and work — it’s a city powered by people who care. Whether it’s through volunteering, serving on a board, or lending a hand to a neighbor, Muscatine’s spirit of teamwork and generosity shines every day.

Right now, the City of Muscatine is calling on residents to step up and make a difference by serving on one of our city’s boards and commissions. These groups play a crucial role in guiding city programs, policies, and initiatives — helping ensure Muscatine continues to grow as a vibrant and welcoming community.

We currently have openings on several boards, including:

  • Art Center Board of Directors
  • Musser Public Library Board of Trustees
  • Public Art Commission
  • Parks and Recreation Advisory Board
  • Zoning Board of Adjustment

Muscatine has 12 boards and commissions in total, each supporting different departments and areas of city life. To see the full list, check qualifications, and download an application form, visit BOARDS & COMMISSIONS.

Interested? Here’s how to apply:

  • Fill out the application form (PDF available online).
  • Submit it by Sunday, April 30via:
    • Email: chilger@muscatineiowa.gov
    • Mail: Boards & Commissions, c/o City Clerk, Muscatine City Hall, 215 Sycamore, Muscatine, IA 52761.

Don’t worry if the board you’re interested in isn’t available right now — we keep applications on file for future opportunities!

What Happens Next?

Applications are reviewed by the Nominating Committee (made up of the Mayor, two City Council members, and a City staff representative) to make sure qualifications are met and avoid any potential conflicts of interest. Final recommendations go to the full City Council for approval.

Most boards require some knowledge of the subject area, but most importantly, they need your passion and commitment.

Get involved. Give back. Help lead the way forward for Muscatine!
