[ARCHIVED] How to learn about life in law enforcement - 2025 Junior Police Academy

MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Muscatine Police Department, in cooperation with Muscatine Community College, will again offer a FREE summer academy for students ages 14- to 20-years-old. The Junior Police Academy is a five-day training program that will provide students the opportunity to learn about law enforcement.

The Academy will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from June 9 to June 13, and is designed to develop a greater partnership between the Muscatine Police Department and the community.

The students receive hands-on instruction from Muscatine Community College staff and officers from the Muscatine Police Department and participate in activities emphasizing certain aspects of law enforcement work. Students will learn what it takes to become a police officer with hands-on lessons and activities that include: 

  • Physical Conditioning
  • OWI Processing | Standardized Field Sobriety Testing
  • Muscatine Special Operations Team (SWAT)
  • Crime Scene Investigation,
  • K-9 Operations
  • Mock Trial
  • Medical Training
  • Defensive Tactics

There is no cost to attend and lunch is provided. All high school students are eligible to apply, however space is limited. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors. Those that attend will have an opportunity to earn a $500 scholarship from the Muscatine Police Officers Association and a $500 scholarship from Muscatine Community College (if they choose to continue their education at one of the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges).
