[ARCHIVED] Muscatine police remember four fallen officers next week

Assistant Chief Steve Snider and Mayor Brad Bark with Police Week Proclamation (JPG)

MUSCATINE, Iowa – President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation in 1962 that designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Peace Officers Memorial Day honors local, state, and federal peace officers who have died, or who have been disabled, in the line of duty.

Since May 10, 1839, the men and women of the Muscatine Police Department have protected the rights and freedoms of its citizens. Their efforts have come with a heavy price. In the history of the Muscatine Police Department four of its members have been killed in the line of duty. The department continues to honor their memory by furthering the work they began all those years ago. Officer Thomas Moore, Muscatine’s first line of duty death, was only the second law enforcement officer killed in Iowa’s history. See FALLEN OFFICERS.
