[ARCHIVED] K9 Unit demonstration set for August 2 at Musser Library

MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Muscatine Police Department will host a K9 demonstration at the Musser Public Library and HNI Community Center, part of a series of programs called “Muscatine Police Department Presents”. The initial program will be held from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, in room 301 of the facility.

Demonstrations of police canine work, the use of K9’s in everyday police work, and the different abilities of each canine member of the unit will be a part of the initial program. The Muscatine Police K9 Unit members K9 Nero with Corporal Minnat Patel and K9 Jaxx with Officer Kevin Rink will be present for the demonstration.

The canines and their partners will be demonstrating the canines’ abilities in apprehension of suspects and for drug work. Patel and Rink will also discuss the basics of purchasing a K9 for police work, training, odor recognition, tracking suspects, drug detection, and the value of K9’s in law enforcement work.

Bring your families and experience the K9 unit and their K9 partners. The event will be a great educational experience for children of all ages, their families, and anyone in the community who would like to learn more about the K9 unit.

This is the first of a series of “Muscatine Police Presents” events that will be held monthly in the Musser Public Library and HNI Community Center.
