051618 7thstreet 01

MUSCATINE Iowa – The intersection of Iowa Avenue and 7th Street will be closed to traffic starting at 7 a.m. Monday (May 21) as work on the West Hill Sewer Separation Project Phase 4A moves up the 7th Street hill.

KMA Excavating is finishing up sanitary sewer work in the 100 block of East 7th Street and will move into the intersection and 100 block of West 7th Street this week. The Iowa Avenue intersection will be restored with a temporary driving surface as soon as practical as soon as work there is completed.

The work in the 100 block of West 7th Street may take up to five weeks to complete according to City of Muscatine construction project inspector Steve Dalby.

Vehicles cannot drive into or park in areas where work is being done or has been completed until the contractor opens up those areas to local traffic. It is anticipated that repaving of the 100 and 200 blocks of East 7th Street will begin later this month depending on the weather.

Dalby also said that the work site is a dangerous area but particularly for children and urged parents to not allow any children to play near any equipment or near any of the trenches. Drivers are also reminded that they need to plan alternate routes for their morning and evening commutes during construction.

LANE RESTRICTION ON EAST 5th STREET

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in the 1200 block of East 5th Street beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, May 21, according to the Department of Public Works. A local contractor will be replacing a private sewer at that location.

This location is at the top of the hill on East 5th Street and just beyond the curve. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution when approaching the area or find an alternate route of travel. The lane restriction is expected to last three days with all lanes being open by Thursday, May 24.
