MUSCATINE, Iowa – The East 5th Street closure to through traffic from Cypress to Park Avenue will continue through Monday, April 19, as the west half of the intersection with Park Avenue is removed and replaced. Local traffic only will be allowed from Cypress to Park Avenue during this time period.

Traffic restrictions went into effect Monday as Taylor Ridge Excavating was on site to drill a three-foot diameter by nine-foot deep mast arm foundation in the southwest quadrant of the intersection.

Heuer Construction, Inc., the full depth patching subcontractor for the Park Avenue Project, will begin removing and replacing the existing pavement in the East 5th Street radius return approaching Park Avenue Tuesday, which is a week ahead of the previously announced closure schedule. Heuer anticipates completing the work by the end of the day on Friday.

Depending on weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances, the street closure should be lifted on April 19.

Full depth patching on the west side of Park Avenue from Washington to East 4th Street continues as part of Stage 2A of the Park Avenue 4-to-3 Lane Conversion Project. Park Avenue lane restrictions will continue with the southbound two lanes closed to traffic and two-way traffic shifted to the northbound lanes.

Drivers are reminded to slow down and use caution when travelling through the construction zone, obey traffic control devices, and be aware of workers. Use an alternate route if possible.
