MUSCATINE, Iowa – Work resumed Tuesday (March 16) on the 2nd Street Streetscape Project as the intersection of East 2nd Street and Sycamore Street was closed to traffic. The intersection is expected to remain closed for up to six weeks, weather permitting.

The contractor, KE Flatwork, Inc., will work on pavement removal and the replacement of a manhole in the intersection by the underground crew before restoration of the pavement surface and sidewalk area begins.

Access to businesses in the 100 block of East 2nd Street is available from the Iowa Avenue intersection and to businesses in the 200 block of East 2nd Street from the Cedar Street intersection.

2nd Street Blue Route Detour (JPG)MuscaBus announced a detour for the Blue Route due to construction on East 2nd Street.

KE Flatwork, Inc., and staff from the City of Muscatine will meet with businesses owners and residents that are affected by the current construction area at 9 a.m. every Thursday, starting this Thursday, March 18, near the Sycamore intersection. These meetings will be held weekly throughout the construction phase and will move to each affected area as work progresses.

Once the underground crew has completed work in the Sycamore intersection, they will be moved to a section of East 2nd Street from Walnut to the roundabout in front of Musser Public Library to replace a sewer line.

All dates are tentative and dependent on weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.

Drivers are reminded to slow down and use caution when travelling through the construction zone, obey traffic control devices, and be aware of workers. Use an alternate route if possible.

The entire project is expected to be completed by Fall 2021, weather permitting.
