Newly hired law enforcement officers from across the state attend the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) for their certification / training. The ILEA is in Johnston Iowa on the grounds of Camp Dodge, headquarters of the Iowa National Guard. The ILEA Basic Course is 13 weeks of classroom and field training for recruit officers. In conjunction with the Muscatine Police Departments Field Training Program the ILEA prepares our officers for the career in law enforcement.
"The ILEA has been assigned the responsibility of providing training for Iowa Law Enforcement Officers, to coordinate training and to set standards for the law enforcement service.
