Hello, everyone! We're trying out this new Community Voice feature of our website and we'd like to get some conversation started. With the topic of discussion being downtown Muscatine, what are your thoughts about the area? What do you like or not like about 2nd Street and the downtown area? How might we work together to improve it? The City looks forward to the discussion on this thread and values your input and participation!

Guilty until proven innocent. No right to face your accuser (a camera). Unconstitutional. Period. If you, or anyone that happens to be driving your car, are convicted (unconstitutionally) by a CAMERA then YOU are (supposedly) mailed a ticket. If you do not receive and/or respond (to the ticket that was supposedly mailed) with payment in full then your state income tax refund will be withheld and deducted TWICE the original amount of the ticket!! That's right. NO QUESTIONS ASKED! NOTHING! GUILTY! THIS IS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!! How do we let this stand? Let's do something about it.

What items would you like to see placed for consideration in the City budget negotiations? Streets? Sidewalks? Housing? What's most important to you as a taxpayer.

Question: When is the rest of Muscatine going to receive the city issued garbage containers? #1 it would decrease the obviously poor attitudes of garbage collection workers. Evidently being a garbage collector doesn't help a person realize they have a job that is of adequate pay when there are many people who would appreciate having a job like that or even a job period. It would help people that spend quite a bit of money on a trash can that can hold up to being thrown in the street to be run over by traffic when emptied by pick up workers and smashed as violently as possible by the pick up workers. My hope is utilizing mechanical advantage would make a more serene working environment for these poor individuals that get every known and unknown holiday off with pay.. #2 would justify the ever increasing cost of our trash pick up At least they have provided containers for every one unlike our City garbage program. Asking:: when we are going to get the Garbage cans.

This building has had the same wedding date on there for the past 3 years! Also would like to see something done with the building on corner of Mulberry by the mexican restaurant Olimita and close to the downtown HyVee. It has been wrapped up in Caution tags for I don't know how long. Also I have had a complaint about 323 west 2nd street house for a long time with no help from the city. I have called and complained in August also I went to city hall and complained in October. There is trash in the front yard that are not in the correct trash containers. Also a bucket of water that has been sitting there for months. Also trash in the backyard, grills not working, a board that they were throwing knives at. I am tired of the filth by my house. I have two young children. I don't want rats, mice, raccoons, the zika virus in our neighborhood.

Having used the reverse diagonal parking along Linn and later along Mississippi Drive, it's obvious that reversing into a diagonal space is a more efficient and far safer alternative to forward diagonal parking. This should be brought back to Linn Street before the current utility work is completed and expanded along Iowa Avenue from the River to Fourth Street.
Convenient. Efficient. Safe. I'd like to see it everywhere diagonal parking is used.

The City should involve the community when making decisions that impact the community. The city should take action when people reach out with concerns and request assistance. It's as if only certain groups in the community get to be involved and treated as if their opinions matter. Too many local agencies and individuals who work for the city treat a large majority of people in the community unfairly, poorly, and unequally which I feel has a lot to do with the reason for many of the problems that exist in our community. We all should be treated equally. Power and authority should not be used to harm people in the community and the city should not allow these things. The city has created a divide between the community and the people in it, because of this it has created several problems that could have been avoided.

Is there a way trash can be compacted like old cars? Also is there a way trash can be burned and the trash filtered through filters that eliminate bad gases?

Let's take all the waste organic material like food out of the waste stream going to the landfill and add it to the City anaerobic digesters to create clean burning renewable fuel.

Someone is pulled clear out into the intersection and so far away from the curb I end up barley having room between them and the parked cars. This probably won't help because ppl don't know how to drive but it's worth the try.
