MUSCATINE, Iowa – It has been nearly seven months since the intersection of Day, Nebraska, and Birch streets was closed after a leak in the force main of the sanitary sewer was discovered. The day (no pun intended) has come that the intersection has been repaired and is now open to traffic.
The intersection was the location of what first appeared to be a water leak but upon excavation and further investigation, a break in the sanitary sewer force main was discovered. That led to a four month process of repairing the force main by inserting a liner from the Water Pollution Control Plant to Musser Park.
The line repair was completed in February. However, repairs to the original excavation site had to wait until the weather improved along with the availability of the construction crew.
