MUSCATINE, Iowa – Republic Services has announced that it will suspend recycling collection on Tuesday (January 26, 2021), but the City of Muscatine has indicated that there will not be a delay in refuse collection due to the weather.
“As we strive to put safety first for our drivers and communities, we have decided to suspend collection services for Tuesday, 1/26/21, due to adverse winter weather conditions,” a statement from Republic Services read.
This will result in a one day delay in service for the remainder of the week with Friday routes being run on Saturday (January 30).
The City of Muscatine is asking that refuse and recycling bins not be placed in the street for collection this week as snowplowing efforts continue.
“The containers can be placed in their driveways when possible, as long as the collection truck can still reach them,” Dave Popp, Solid Waste Manager for the City of Muscatine, said. “Some residents will have to place them in the streets unless they are able to shovel a spot out in the frozen windrow behind the curb to set the can.”
With the assistance of residents, refuse collection should be completed on time for the rest of this week.
