Water & Resource Recovery Facility

Functions

The Water & Resource Recovery Facility (formerly the Water Pollution Control Plant) of the City of Muscatine collects wastewater from homes, commercial buildings, and industrial facilities and transports it through a series of pipes, known as the collection system, to the Center.

The WRRF removes harmful organisms and other contaminates from the wastewater so the "cleaned" water can be safely discharged into the Mississippi River.

About the Plant

The Muscatine Water & Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) is an activated sludge treatment plant. In its large tanks, the plant performs filtration processes that would occur in nature to help remove organic material. The clean water is returned to the Mississippi River and the biosolids are stored for applying to designated land. Learn more about WRRF operations.
