The City of Muscatine is moving towards automated collection of waste, one step at a time.
Automated collection will allow a more safe work environment for our workers, beautification of our community with a uniformed container, and is a program goal of the City of Muscatine's Comprehensive Plan.
A pilot program began in the fall of 2013, with 850 households received carts. To see the pilot program locations, please view the map.
All carts have been delivered in Muscatine and Fruitland as of September 2016. If you would like to request a size different than 65 gallon, you can call 563.263.9689.
Residents in the program will be given 65 gallon carts, similar to the recycling carts. They will be dark green with grey lids.
If you would like a 35 or 95 gallon cart in the Phase 3 areas, please contact 563.263.9689 or us the request form above.
How the program works:
Each household will be given one cart to put waste in. All waste must be in this cart for collection. Waste in a non city issued containers or in bags outside of the issued container will not be collected. Residents are encouraged to recycle and if they have excess recycling being thrown away, they can request an additional recycling container. We are encouraging recycling with this program.
What to do for the week after Christmas with the extra holiday waste?
During the week between Christmas and New Year's the City of Muscatine will collect extra bags of waste outside of the city issued cart. Dates will be posted and listed with holiday information prior to the Christmas holiday.
Questions can be directed to Kristy Korpi, Acting Solid Waste Manager.
Thank you for helping make this program work in our community.
